Siding term
Vinyl Siding
Definition: Vinyl siding is exterior wall cladding made mainly from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), manufactured in panels that interlock and hang loosely on nails so they can expand and contract.
Why it matters
Vinyl siding does not need painting and is widely used on homes because of its cost and low upkeep. Correct installation matters: panels nailed too tight can buckle in summer heat, and the house wrap and flashing behind the siding are what keep water out of the wall.
