Siding term
Fiber Cement Siding
Definition: Fiber cement siding is exterior cladding made from a mix of cement, sand and cellulose fibers, formed into planks or panels that resist rot, insects and fire.
Why it matters
Fiber cement is heavier and more rigid than vinyl and is usually painted or pre-finished at the factory. It is a common upgrade when homeowners want the look of wood lap siding without wood rot, but it needs different cutting and handling than vinyl.
