Roofing term
Drip Edge
Definition: A drip edge is a bent metal flashing installed along the eaves and rakes of a roof that directs water away from the fascia and into the gutters.
Why it matters
Without a drip edge, water can curl back under the shingle edge and rot the roof deck and fascia boards. The International Residential Code requires a drip edge at eaves and rake edges of asphalt shingle roofs, so it should appear in a roof replacement scope.
